Company Updates

Qala, an organization that trains African Bitcoin and Lightning engineers, has been acquired by Jay-Z and Jack Dorsey's Btrust non-profit. This deal provides both entities with the resources and structure to help advance Bitcoin development in Africa. The Btrust Builders Programme will focus on open-source training and inviting senior African software developers to participate in Bitcoin and Lightning development.

Grayscale Investments won a legal battle against the SEC, which may lead to the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US. This ruling has caused a surge in Bitcoin prices and a rise in stocks of crypto-related companies. The SEC has long been skeptical of approving spot Bitcoin ETFs due to market manipulation concerns, but this ruling could compel them to reassess their stance.

Twitter Payments LLC, a branch of X, has been granted a license to store, transfer, and exchange Bitcoin and other digital assets on behalf of its users in the state of Rhode Island. The license also covers services such as wallets, payment processors, and exchanges. Elon Musk has previously expressed a desire to turn X into an "everything app" for financial transactions.

Mi Primer Bitcoin, a nonprofit and NGO, partnered with the Ministry of Education of El Salvador to teach Bitcoin education in public schools by 2024. 150 public school teachers will be trained on the curriculum before it is rolled out to all schools in the country. This program is being watched by other countries and MPB is already in talks with two other Latin American governments.

They provide a range of connections, including xpubs, multisig, and a Strike API for direct bitcoin settlement. They also have features such as customizable URLs, Order Fulfillment, and embed buttons. Their subscription plan is $25 per month or $240 per year.

Blockstream has introduced a new feature, called Splicing, to its Core Lightning implementation. Splicing is aimed at tackling liquidity constraints, leading to more affordable and reliable transactions. It also helps unify Bitcoin and Lightning balances, making it easier for everyday users. Splicing was developed by Dusty Daemon with funding from OpenSats, and it will bring the Lightning and Bitcoin protocols closer together for simpler user experiences.

CoinCorner and Lolly have partnered up to add Bitcoin payment functionality to the LollyPoS platform. Customers can now pay with Bitcoin Lightning Network, along with cash and cards, by selecting the CoinCorner payment button. The partnership is aiming to revolutionize payments in the industry and set a precedent for inclusive payment solutions.

Peach Bitcoin released version 0.3 of its peer-to-peer bitcoin trading platform.
